Who is Krampus?

The name Krampus is derived from the German word krampen which means claws. Krampus is Santa’s demonic assistant. Also known as the Christmas Devil Krampus is half demon and half goat. In contrast to Santa, who rewards good children with presents, Krampus punishes the bad children. He has a large basket to carry children away and a bundle of sticks to beat the naughty children. If children were very bad Krampus would take them away to his layer for a year before returning them. Krampus’s job was to take the bad children away so just the good children were left when Santa came. Krampus Day is celebrated in Austria and Germany on December 5th the day before St Nicholas Day.
